Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is a charming and enjoyable sequel that captures much of the original’s heart, offering fun tactical gameplay and a touching new adventure for Marona and Apricot. However, its strongest story moments are frustratingly kept behind DLC, which dampens the emotional impact of the journey. It’s sad to say , but the real tragedy of The Lost Hero is that its heart is sold separately.

7.5 / 10.0 - Steel Seed
Apr 26, 2025

Steel Seed delivers an emotional narrative in a haunting world, but stumbles where it matters most, Storm in a Teacup clearly poured their heart into Steel Seed’s story, but by neglecting the equally vital pillars of pacing, gameplay engagement, and atmospheric immersion, the game ultimately delivers an emotional journey that resonates — but doesn’t fully satisfy me.

Well the game is full of nostalgic ’90s charm, it’s bogged down by awkward celebrity cameos that feel more like gimmicks than genuine additions. The core experience is decent, but the over-the-top push to stay relevant by tossing in celebrity fighters actually drags it down more than it elevates it.

9.5 / 10.0 - South of Midnight
Apr 7, 2025

South of Midnight is a rare kind of game: a haunting, heartfelt Southern folktale with modern soul. It’s weird in all the right ways, ambitious in its themes, and stunning in execution. Hazel’s journey is one I’ll remember not just for the battles she fought, but for the songs she heard, the wounds she healed, and the stories she carried with her. This is Compulsion Games’ best work to date, and one of the most distinctive action-adventure games of the year.

8.5 / 10.0 - Koira
Apr 5, 2025

Koira is a beautifully crafted adventure that explores themes of friendship, trust, and the bond between humans and animals. Its stunning visuals, emotive soundtrack, and engaging gameplay create an experience that resonates deeply, even if it is brief. Despite minor technical hiccups, Koira stands out as a shining example of indie storytelling.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land feels like it tried to evolve, but grew in all the wrong directions. It trades intimacy for scale, depth for breadth, and ends up feeling like a generic JRPG that happens to have alchemy in it, rather than a true Atelier experience. If you’re in it for the vibes and some light crafting, you might still find some charm here. But for fans hoping for a deeper, more refined entry—this one just doesn’t quite synthesize.

6.5 / 10.0 - FATE: Reawakened
Mar 25, 2025

FATE: Reawakened delivers a noticeable graphical improvement over the original games, bringing the classic dungeon-crawling experience into a more modern light, but suffers from a long list of technical problems that significantly detract from the experience. Many of these bugs—particularly those involving item stats, retirement exploits, and missing UI elements—impact core gameplay mechanics, making progression either frustrating or easily exploitable. While the game is still playable, these issues demand urgent attention from developers. Without meaningful patches, the game risks alienating both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

6 / 10.0 - Warriors: Abyss
Mar 9, 2025

Warriors: Abyss isn’t the worst entry in the series, but it’s far from the best. While its hero summoning mechanic has potential, the repetitive gameplay, bland visuals, weak story, and aggressive DLC push make it hard to recommend at full price. There’s some mindless fun to be had in the early hours, but once the novelty wears off, you’re left with yet another Warriors game that fails to evolve in any meaningful way.

While The Tale of Bistun has a noble goal of bringing a Persian legend to life, its execution leaves much to be desired. The story, though rooted in an epic romance, feels predictable and shallow, failing to deliver the emotional weight it promises. The graphics, while occasionally atmospheric, are largely outdated, resembling something you’d expect from a PS3-era title rather than a modern indie game. And while the combat is serviceable, it quickly becomes repetitive and lacks the depth to sustain engagement. For those interested in Persian mythology and willing to overlook its flaws, The Tale of Bistun might be worth a short playthrough. But for everyone else, this tale is one that will likely be forgotten as quickly as it is played.

While the nostalgia factor is strong, it’s clear that some of these classics need better optimization to truly shine on modern hardware. Until then, revisiting The Sims might require some patience—but for those willing to push through, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. The game still requires significant effort to run properly on Windows 10 and 11, despite being optimized for these operating systems. On a positive note, both The Sims and The Sims 2 retain their classic appeal, originating from an era before the industry’s full shift toward a heavy reliance on downloadable content (DLC). In contrast, the modern iterations of The Sims franchise have seen a decline in quality, largely due to this trend.
