For me, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 really is a stand out with the turn based RPG genre and Sandfall Interactive have really brought the mechanics up to snuff to suit modern RPG standards to rival the big hitters like final fantasy. The world is insanely detailed and absolutely gorgeous, the combat although having slight pitfalls is incredibly interesting and majorly addictive and the main highlight has to easily be the story and characters and those jaw dropping cinematics that are seen throughout the experience. I went into Clair Obscur with an open mind but thinking it was going to be a run of the mill Turn Based RPG with some good visuals. However I was absolutely blown out of the water in every single way. This is a Turn based RPG that will truly stay with you many days, months and years after the release and I can tell this is going to be one that will change your mind if you have never been into these sort of turn based experiences. I loved my time with this game and I heavily recommended buying it or diving into it on Xbox Game Pass right now!

70% - KIBORG
Apr 29, 2025

When I first started my time with KIBORG I was in two minds whether I was enjoying it or not. The first few runs are punishing whilst you gauge how the game functions and how to time and perfect your attacking and defending. The experience really blossoms when you start to unlock more within the skill tree which in turn allows you to become a little stronger each time you start a run. Replayability is there if you want to keep repeating runs and try and max out the skill tree whilst reaching the end game. It sure is a challenging game and there is a repetitive nature to it after several hours. However, the varience in weaponry, implants, floors and enemies within them could give you enough longevity to justify its reasonable cost for a polished and finished brawler.

The most disappointing part of Deepest Trench is how much wasted potential it represents. With a more refined approach to controls, a better balance in difficulty, and puzzles that actually make sense, this could have been a truly engaging underwater adventure. Instead, it feels like a game that punishes rather than challenges. For players looking for a rewarding cooperative experience, this isn’t it. It’s hard to imagine revisiting it anytime soon, and with so many better alternatives available, Deepest Trench fails to justify its place beneath the waves.

Though Pilo and the Holobook rarely tested me, I enjoyed it regardless. The colourful hand-drawn worlds were a pleasure to explore. Moreover, the audio is upbeat and pleasant to listen to. However, some soundbites were annoying, which was a shame. If you fancy a simple and mindless adventure, this could be right up your street. Alternatively, as a parent, I think this would be ideal for younger or less able gamers. As such, I enjoyed it and think you should pick up a copy from the Xbox Store.

A massive part of me wishes to scream about my hatred of this game! I hate it because it beat me so many times. However, it is a special game with so many amazing ideas. Moreover, no playthrough is the same, and the hellish learning curve makes it extremely rewarding. I may have been terrible at it, but my lack of basic foundations was to blame. Accordingly, if you love the card game, you will adore this video game adaptation, and you should buy a copy from the Xbox store!

Sociable Soccer 25 finally lands on the Xbox console and is a nice little nod for the older gamers out there, but also an evolution of the past for the gamers new to this style of play. Admittedly, I was a bit frustrated at first getting to grips with the control scheme and how the players reacted to my button presses, but over time the game grew on me and I was playing with more fluidity and keeping possession. Sometimes the AI feels a little stale and doesn’t appear to be as reactive as I’d like, but then I remember this doesn’t have the enormous team and budget that something like EAFC has. This is a casual take on the football genre, and I love that it finally makes its way to my favourite console, because there is always room for more footballing fun. For this one, though, the experience is short-lived for me without online multiplayer, and I feel like they are missing a trick by not including it. If you’re not one for competing online, then it still provides a great slice of fun alone or in local multiplayer with family or friends.

85% - Atomfall
Apr 18, 2025

It is an incredibly beautiful title from a talented studio that will no doubt run with this and perhaps make future titles along these lines. I loved that the map wasn’t some vast expanse but instead a series of areas that were still large enough to explore, scavenge and experiment throughout. Also, I’ve never played a game where I can crack someone across the back of the head with a cricket bat, call me sadistic if you want, but it was hilarious and satisfying at the same time. Atomfall will nestle amongst one of the most memorable games of 2025 for me and is a must-play, especially if you’re on Xbox Game Pass.

I was actually looking forward to Pocket Bravery. I remember pre-ordering it like over two years ago when it was announced. But oh boy, the final result is highly disappointing. While the quantity of content is through the roof and is surprisingly as more diverse (if not more than) Street Fighter VI, the gameplay and feel of the game feels off and semi-responsive; complemented by cheap A.I.. Considering the price tag of this and high quality fighters available on Xbox, it’s hard to recommend Pocket Bravery.

Not everyone will agree with me when I say this is probably the best Assassins Creed game to date and that is totally OK. Whilst I can draw many comparisons to Ghost Of Tsushima and still find that game a bit better, it comes very close in terms of scope and polish. Assassins Creed Shadows features a map that is absolutely stunning, it feels lived in and full of intriguing and interesting wildlife. You can approach everything stealthily Tenchu style or go in and kick some ass. Yes the story is predictable and some of the missions are pretty much fetch quests or go and kill someone. But half the beauty of this game is exploration and engaging with the side quests, soaking in the cutscenes and admiring the season changes along with their elements. Whilst I wasn't lucky enough to receieve a review code, I feel I needed to write about this experience as it is up there as one of Ubisofts best for sure.

There’s something with The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown, but unfortunately it falls short as a whole. The game offers a waves of enemies instead of traditional go from A to B type of level design, which is a nice change, boss fights are fun, albeit very easy and there’s a handful of enjoyable special attacks to purchase and use. But the questionable level design, questionable hit detection and restrained to using a short range sword does break a bit of the fun. The game is ideal for younger players in your family, but they might need some help for a few levels. If you can tolerate the shortcomings, it’s a nice, short adventure. Otherwise, there’s a myriad of better platformers available.

Breakout Beyond is another version of a great puzzle game from early age of gaming. Easy to pick up and play, great use of power ups and focus mode to help through some of the harder levels. However, it’s greatest feature is also its greatest downfall; lack of gameplay variety and replay value. If you’re looking for something different to keep you busy, Breakout Beyond is a great way to spend some time and money.

My Little Universe surprised me with its addictive gameplay loop to the point I kept coming back for more until I finished it. Whilst the game is never particularly challenging, you do feel a sense of progression as you dive deeper into each area. I put a little over 20 hours into the game, so there is plenty of content here if you want to achieve 100%. Whilst I couldn’t seem to get hands on with my Lenovo Legion Go alongside my Xbox Series X, I am looking forward to playing again in handheld mode. The game should be Xbox Play Anywhere on launch, so those with PC/Handheld devices should be able to get their fix.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is great fighter that can stand on its own thanks to its unique approach and gameplay to the genre. The game offers a decent roster of 30+ characters out of the box, gameplay is easy to pick up and hard to master, and there’s enough gameplay content to keep players busy for months. Despite Story mode feeling more like a watching an anime (felt like 40% playing, 60% watching) and burying the shop under layers of menus in story mode, the gameplay is solid enough to sink its teeth into players. If you’re a long time fighting genre player or looking for some different, Bleach Rebirth of Souls is a must play.

70% - Dwerve
Apr 1, 2025

Dwerve does a great job of peppering the gameplay with its wonderful story. However, the action is somewhat repetitive and the colour palette is a bit too grim for my liking. Though I found it to be fun, it wasn’t memorable. Despite this, you should pick up a copy from the Xbox store!

Shadow of the Orient is a by the book 2D action platformer; kill enemies, find treasures, save prisoners; albeit in slightly bigger levels. But that’s not a bad thing; easy to pick up and play, and plenty to find scattered throughout each area. But combat feels unbalanced and annoying due to flying enemies or insanely rapid enemy reaction. But if you move around the various enemies or conserve your sub-weapons, it makes it more enjoyable.

Sorry We’re Closed is a decent, surprisingly little gem. Story is interesting, the visuals are a nice homage to classic PS1/N64 era of gaming, and Third Eye power is a a fun mechanic to mix things up a bit. This unique experience, however, is dumbed down by the clunky combat and questionable camera views makes this game more frustrating than it should be. If they improve the camera work and fine tune the combat, a sequel could even be more special. I can easily recommend this game, however it will take sometime to master the combat.

Monster Hunter Wilds is probably the first game in the popular franchise to really consume me. Whether it was because I played a lot of it with a couple of friends or just didn’t really give the previous games enough chance, I am not entirely sure. What I can be sure of though is that it is a rich and detailed world that feels fantastic to play, both for veterans of the series and newcomers also. I have read various comments from fans stating that it is a little easier than previous experiences. For me though, it was challenging enough without becoming too difficult to drive me away. The fluidity of combat seems drastically improved on what I have delved into before. Sure there could still be some minor improvements going forwards, most notably the cluttered and untidy UI. But for the most part I had a great time and will continue to do so after 20+ hours with the game. For those solo players out there like myself who tried and didn’t like Monster Hunter, try and grab some mates to enhance the adventure. If not you could try the looking for game feature on Xbox, which I used for the very first time to find others to slay giant monsters with.

Mullet MadJack is an absolute blast to play. It’s high intense action, fast paced and adrenaline pumping. The health vs timer system does take a bit of time to adapt to, but once you get a grasp of it, you’ll have a blast. But again, it’s not for everyone because at the same time, the timer can feel like a strict method of playing. Thankfully, if you just want to enjoy a balls to the walls shooter, disable the timer and just go nuts. If you’re looking for a unique FPS experience, Mullet MadJack is highly recommended. And it’s on Gamepass! (as of this writing).

Whether you tackle Spellbearers alone or with a friend, it is a fun but shallow indie game. The visuals are good but the dark colour palette does create unnecessary sighting problems. Moreover, the audio is a little overbearing and you may wish to turn this down for a more pleasant experience. I enjoyed the simple gameplay and the refined control system. Though the lack of depth could have easily been avoided, it is a good casual title, nonetheless. Accordingly, if you love the genre, you can click here to grab a copy from the Xbox store.

A potentially great game which had potential to be different, just couldn’t mix with the big boys in the free to play market. My heart hangs heaviest for the developers that will inevitably lose their jobs due to a failed passion project.
